Calculate your cumulative GPA. Add courses, credits, and grades.
Add each course you're taking along with its credit hours and the grade you earned (or expect to earn), and this calculator computes your semester GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Add or remove courses freely — the GPA recalculates instantly with every change.
GPA = Total Grade Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Grade points for a course are calculated as the numeric grade value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on) multiplied by that course's credit hours. Add up the grade points for every course, add up the credit hours for every course, then divide the two totals to get your overall GPA.
A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. Some schools use slightly different scales (no A+ above 4.0, or a straight A=4/B=3/C=2/D=1/F=0 scale without plus/minus), so check your registrar's official scale if your GPA needs to match a transcript exactly.
GPA is the sum of grade points (grade value × credit hours) for all courses, divided by the total number of credit hours. A 3-credit A (4.0) and a 3-credit B (3.0) average to (12+9)/6 = 3.5.
A 3.0 is generally considered solidly good, 3.5+ is strong, and 3.7+ is often the threshold for honors or competitive graduate programs. Context matters — a 3.0 in a rigorous engineering program can represent as much effort as a 3.7 in a less demanding major.
This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. If your school gives extra grade points for honors, AP, or IB courses, use the Weighted GPA Calculator instead.
Use the Cumulative GPA Calculator, which combines GPA and credit totals across several semesters into one overall figure, rather than recalculating from every individual course.
